God, Rebecca's mum is so brilliantly terrible. I think "Where's the Bathroom" is among my Top 5 songs in the first season.

The whole episode is such a lovely dysfunctinal mess. I love how Greg is styling himself as a total victim of his supposedly terrible stepfamily and mum. Heather is really the total voice of sanity on this show. Also I kind of ship her with absolutely everybody.

Also how awesome is loathsome Valencia. This song is another absolute favorite of mine in season 1

I see this so fucking often, women professing lip service to feminism and the putting each other down. Songs and statements like this is why the feminism on this show always reminds me of Margaret Atwood, it never shies away from looking at women's roles in the whole mess and also not from naming double standards.

Aside from being completely obsessed with the second season of "The Handmaid's tale" I started to watch the Americans. I don't know why I wasn't hooked the first time I had a look at it. Now I am hooked. So yay! Four seasons on netflix and I' m sure going to finde the rest somewhere.

Took me a good long while to find this one online. No idea why this show is so hard to get sometimes. If Hulu worked in my country I'd pay them right away. Man, this episode was awesome.

Damn, this is good. And painfull to watch. Atwood really refuses to look away from the horrible places. She's like a feminist Steven King in a way.

Hm, I think in the end I liked it  a lot.  It hinged on the main character of course and I found her really likeable. The new Klingons are silly, or their design is anyway. But all in all it felt like Trek, and like it always does it will take time to develop. Also I can only reall tell, once I have a ship to connect to.

Damn what an awesome episode!!

I guess the things to come must be horrible because this episode was so full og treets!

Now that was chillingly good. I just watched the first three episodes that are already out and there could not possibly be a more relevant, intelligent and masterfully acted show at this moment.

In the third episode they move past the book (or rather deviate from it) but it is very well done and the elements they added adhere to the principle Atwood used when writing the book that all the forms of torture and oppression that occure in the book are based on reality.

I have to see the complete series and then probably watch it again.

I wasn't around much lately so I didn't have the time to write much about the individual episodes and now it is too late to catch up, but I'm watching and I love what they are doing for the most part.

I especially like how they are working with the Jaime and Brienne storyline, which is prompting me to write about those two and why I find them so intriguing.

I finally caught up with Sherlock and loved every second of the finale. I think it replaced Study in Pink as my favourite episode. So, all of you who saw it, how do you think he did it?

My theory is below the cut )

I really enjoy Mark watches Buffy. In fact I was looking into it every day to find out if he had finally arrived at School Hard. I love how perfectly he gets it and the fact that he is completely unspoiled. Season 2 is simply perfect for that, because season 1 is a comparatively normal standard television show. In the beginning of season 2 (I also watched it completely unspoiled back in the day) you really think you know what to expect. The annoying one will be the villain and then after School Hard, yeah, Spike will be the villain, but it is still not all that special.

Yes, sure the story about Angel's oh so dark past was told, but I ,at least,  was not prepared at all for just how evil Angelus really was. And I really can't wait for Mark to discover it.

I also loved that he knew the instant after watching the first ever Angel/Spike scene that there must be millions of slashfics about them out there. Heee.

Reading his take on the show is the most enjoyable fandom thing I have seen in a very long time. Makes me think that maybe I will get over the comic fiasco after all and get back in the game.

Bwah, I forgot just how good this show is! I will never be able to watch the Hollywood version now, because the loud snickering will get me thrown out of the cinema.

TV meme

Dec. 21st, 2011 12:10 pm

Since being sick is boring, boring, boring I thought I'd join the crowd and do the tv meme, even if I am a bit sketchy about the date line.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2011?

Homeland, American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, Grimm, Once Upon A Time, Ringer, Revenge and Breaking Bad.

There was some good stuff in the first half of the year, but aside from homeland the autumn shows were a bit disappointing. I was especially looking forward to the fairy tail shows which were both kind of meh.

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2011?

Grimm and Ringer right after starting them and I kind of stopped watching Supernatural and Merlin, both of which are nice and slashy and all but have run themselves dead on more of the same. Too much episodic storytelling, too little storyarc and even what is there could be better. I think Naomi Novik's Merlin fanfic killed it off for me, because the (very offhanded) storytelling (between the porn) was so much better than the show ever came to be. Also Chuck, it is just over. Stop it.

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2011? Why?

Boardwalk Empire and The Wire. Next year.

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2012?

I don't know. Several new seasons of old shows, but I have no idea what is coming up in 2012. Maybe American Gods, if it is really happening?

Which TV show impressed you least in 2011?

Ringer...and the fairy tale shows. They could have been so interesting. And as much as I dislike Willingham and his politics, Fables still blows both of them out of the water, simply by being innovative instead of mainstream and trying to please everybody.

Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2012 unless things significantly improve?

Dexter, but it has shown before that it can get from bad to superb again.

Which TV show impressed you the most in 2011? Why?

Just talking new shows here, so I will leave out Breaking Bad which continues to be my favourite thing since chocolate. I'd go with Homeland. Never thought a terrorist drama could be good, but they managed. Three truly fantastic actors all settled with difficult contradictive roles and brilliant dialogue. Where's the next season?

Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?

I don't know. I think the cursed Buffy comics are the crappy thing I stuck with the longest. TV shows usually just quietly fade into the background of my brain until I am too lazy to dl.

Shows I watched and loved that aren't mentioned on this list because I started them in another year

Doctor Who, Misfits, Being Human, Sherlock, The Good Wife...

I'm so addicted to this show! I finally managed to get into the Borgias too and while it's good and a lot more enjoyable than Tudors, Game of Thrones just makes everything else look a bit pale beside it. So much cool stuff this episode.

Ok, good stuff! Don't know how the people new to this are seeing it but I thought this was the first episode, where we seemed to be past introductions, where we start to see layers of the characters and also where some meta messages are served.

I finished Season 3 of Being Human tonight and it really deserves a bit more attention, because wow, that was one intense dark and fascinating season. Spoilers ahead )

Thought it's time to post something again. I'm mostly lurking these days. I'm burried in work at the moment, but it actually feels good, because I feel like I'm getting on with my career now in a way that I didn't before.

But there is of course time for a little tv, even if it is much less than it was before. I started to watch Camelot as brainbubblegum, but I'm afraid it's even too bad for that. Where did they find those actors? I think I'll stick with Merlin as King Arthur shows go, at least that one is fun. I really hope Starz (or what they're called) will do a better job with Torchwood.

I'm also finally catching up with Being Human (two episodes left, no spoilers please) Read more... )
