I'm just glad my brother and his family are all ok, but I am so sorry to see their city hit by terrorism like that. Hate to see what it does to the political climate too.

I'm fine, thanks. Sad, frustrated and pissed off, both at the assholes who did this and at the assholes on both sides who have been actively wishing for this to happen for years as an excuse to spread even more hate and who are now celebrating the death of four innocent people. (Thanks, Donald. We really appreciate that bull's eye you painted on us.)

I am also glad they are all fine, we couldn't locate my youngest niece at first and I was so relieved when she wrote back yesterday afternoon.

Don't let yourself be scared off Europe. It is still ridiculously safe, especially compared to NYC. Of course everybody feels safest at home, but sometimes it helps to consider the numbers.

And they want to scare us all, which is why I made it a rule not to give too much on terrorist threat. Even if you go to say Israel, it is way more likely to have a normal car crash.

So come and if the wind blows you close to Austria, let me know.

In a way, the politicians are right about the news media and how it exaggerates things and spreads fear. Ours likes to just report the negative news.

Right now, there's a ban on ipads and lap-top devices in carry-on bags for overseas travel to various locals. (Although as a general rule, I tend to leave such things at home when I'm not traveling to see relatives.) And I think it is just to certain regions and countries. The reason? About ISIS has figured out how to put bombs in computers now. (Sigh).

But, I do have Prague, Vienna, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Italy, and Greece on my bucket list. Would also at some point like to see Israel. (Been to France and England a couple of times.)

And true, I do live in NYC, which a lot of people including people in the US consider unsafe. It's not from my perspective -- more chances of being killed by a wayward bus or taxi. But it also has had more terrorist incidents and far worse ones than most other countries.

I think the news always report the negative and that is their job in a way. Which is why I feel that I have to see places with my own eyes to truly get them. If I just know them from the news, I will start to think everything outside my hidyhole unsave.

I think the computer ban is bullshit. Just another way to keep the hysteric fear going.

I love Prague, I visited it quite often during my PhD and I think I would move there instantly. It's so comfy and so very pretty. Art on every corner.

Vienna is beautiful too of course, so whenever you need a (somewhat)local guide just let me know.

Eh, Trump isn't noticeable in NYC. For one thing 80% or maybe 90% of New Yorkers hate him. For another, we're a sancturary city and state, who is dedicated to fighting him. He really has less effect on the day to day than you might think. Heck I was working about 20 city blocks from him and didn't see or notice him at all for an entire year and a half. He spends most of his time in West Palm Beach, Florida. Apparently he doesn't like the White House all that much. I keep hoping a hurricane will heat when he's done there and wash him out to sea.

I'm hoping he's impeached or resigns by December. Right now I'm betting fall of 2018.

So much of what holds me back from traveling right now is money and time. Also I have to find the right group tour, since I don't like traveling solo -- too much work and stress. Did a lot of that when I was much younger.
