(Almost) Puppy Free Hugo

Just saw the Hugo short list published and though I did not follow the puppy drama of the year too closely it looks like there is mostly real stuff on the ballot this year (just one puppy nom per category).

Is this a consequence of EPH or is the stupid puppy thing finally dying?


Ah, i read up on it, so Beale had one nom per category this year...and the sads basically don't exist anymore, ironically just like figleave moderate republicans.

Huh. So basically he just told his minions to vote for this ONE book? Or did the organizers limit it somehow?

He asked them all to nominate one book, either because he thought EPH would stop more getting through, or to make more effective measures less likely to pass for next year. See also how his nominations were less bluntly abusive this year, apart from the inevitable paleobestiality porno piece because he will never forgive Rachel Swirsky.

I think what activity there was ended up as simply being a longlist of "here is some stuff we like and think is by politically acceptable writers that you might want to vote for", which nobody would see as particularly objectionable.

I wouldn't put it past him to have written the story himself, or got one of his minions to do so, to be certain that this year the writer wouldn't make fun of him.

I think EPH made it harder to slate. But I would have to read up more about it to really understand EPH.

I agree, one nom is fine and eventually even right wing sci fi fans will get sick of voting for JCW, I mean there is also good conservative scifi.
