rogin: (Season 8)

So what's there to say about #13? It was fun. Great fun actually!

I think, if one takes the comic books too seriously, they are bound to be unsatisfying. The best course of action for me is, to sit down and regard it as a piece of fun fanfiction. If one stops fussing, whether everyone is in character or if every plot development is believable, Season 8 really is great fun!

A good part of the issue is taken up by the Xander/Dracula meeting. And it's hilarious. Of course I've a hard time picturing S4 Xander staying touch with old still men eating  Dracula and taking up a fulfilling career as manservant after Anya died, but it works brilliantly as crack goes (and after all Andrew told the story, so we know it's greatly, uhm, romanticized).
Dracula the century old arrogant, dorky (and racist) count is perfect to balance the slayer army. Buffy always worked best when there was a halfbad character around to screw with the scoobie's righteous view of the world (like Cordelia, Spike or Anya). So it might be good to see Dracula bitch on the slayers with his faithful manservant in tow. We so need Xacula icons! Works way better, than Xander's slayery love interest.

On the slayer front Buffy is back into the general mode and it suits her. She seems to take the situation much more seriously than the others and that makes sense since Axcalibur that was used to activate the slayers. It's not far fetched that it can be used to deactivate them as well.
I wonder why it's Kumiko who wields the Ax now and not Toru himself.Could it be that  Kumiko is maybe a turned slayer? We never go that on the show and it would rule in the mighty cool category.

The personal words between Willow and Satsu were cute. Figures that Willow would like to know, what noises Buffy makes in bed. Heh!
How Buffy dealt with Satsu in public was pretty much what I expected. I wonder where Joss wants to take this. Somehow I doubt that it can just work out without some major angst.

There was no giant Dawn in this one and god knows I didn't miss her, but from the cover #14 I get the notion that there really is going to be
a Dawnzilla destroys Tokio scene..*gulp*
Well, maybe she can finally shrink after that.

About the artwork:
Ok, every cover artist who has to go up after Jo Chen is to be pitied. Her stuff is just too gorgeous. The new cover is ok, pretty cool actually . It just doesn't compare. But I think it has Chinese ghoststory note to it that fits the story line very well.
On the insides Jeanty is still Jeanty: Heads just aren't that big!!! But I guess , we'll just have to wait for the next arc to get proper artwork.

Ooh. Interesting idea. My own thought is that she's a turned witch - when Dracula talks about playing cards with a witch in Tibet I assume he means Kumiko.

And I like the idea of Dracula fulfilling the snark role now - although I'm not expecting him to continue beyond the end of this arc. I actually thought Leah would step into those shoes based on the first issues, but it seems she's been pushed to the sidelines now.

That would make a lot of sense too. After all it was Willow who did the slayer mojo. The symmetry would be very nice.
On the other hand I'd love to see Buffy face off with a vampire-slayer (uhm... vamped slayer).

He's probably only going to be there for the arc, but that should be enough time to make a lot of unsettling comments with his unique sense for political correctness :D

Btw,nice to see you here!

In 15th century Wallachia Dracula's attitudes probably were considered politically correct! Or even dangerously liberal...
:-)

^^ He's a veritable humanist. I hope he gets little payback from Renee soon.
