This is not for the people in my opinion, just to spare the economy. To keep people consuming a little while longer.
Here it is mostly done via so called "Kurzarbeit". people keep 80% of their sallary but they do no longer work full hours. Whatever time they do not actually work is covered by the state. This way firms do not let their people go right away. But we will see, how that will work out long term.
