His Dark Materials

Can we talk about what an absolute treat this show is? It is everything the botched up movie never managed to be. It really transports the soul of the books.

Lately I am reading a lot of dark and angry books, while the fantasy and young adult books collect dust on the shelf, but I really need to read "La Belle Sauvage" and "The secret Commonwealth" now.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear it's good! (I haven't seen it yet, have to wait until it's out on DVD.)

For La Belle Sauvage and The Secret Commonwealth, try Michael Sheen's audio recordings if you can get them; they are WONDERFUL.

The TV adaption really rocks. I am sketchy on the details because it is 10+ years that I read the books but I think they stick rather close to them. And the actors are amazing. Especially Mrs. Coulter. How someone can be such a Lady, so menacing and looking like an ape all at the same time... completely marvelous.

I saw Good Omens, and I loved it! :)

Thank you -- my co-worker loves it too, he didn't read the books and it's working for him. I'm saving it to binge over Thanksgiving holiday weekend. I adore His Dark Materials.

Also need to read "Book of Dust", which I have in hard cover. (I'm reading a lot of fluffy e-reader romantic books and digitally provided dark/adventurous comics, while the other books collect dust on the shelves. )

It is really amazing and a very brave adaption, because it is filming a children's book as a show for an adult audience, not by being overly violent or sexualized but simply by not reducing the complexity one bit.

The actors are all pretty brilliant and the visuals are stunning.

I read the first three books more than ten years ago, so I'm fuzzy on the details, but I think it is pretty close to books.

Friends who already read it loved The book of Dust, so I am very excited about it.
